Taronga Zoo Elephant Enclosure
Completed: 2008
Location: Taronga Zoo, Sydney
Material: Coloured concrete, custom form liners
Panel Type: 41 wall panels, 6 gate panels and 1 planter box
Products: Architectural Structural
Notes: The main feature of this unique building is the striking pattern cast into the surface of the panels. This was achieved by creating custom form liners tailored to the project. Other features to increase the aesthetics of the building include introducing a slope to the walls and placing the joints at angles. The panels are typically 300mm thick and taper to 400mm at the base using a high quality concrete mix to ensure they can withstand the stresses imposed by the building’s excitable inhabitants well into the future.
