About The Project

The project created a combined Law Courts facility for the ACT maximising operational efficiencies whilst still respecting separate jurisdictions of the existing Supreme Court and the Magistrates’ court.

The project was built intertwined amongst existing buildings which introduced significant complexities in design layout. The new build seamlessly connected to both existing buildings which had differing floor levels.

The entire structure was precast, including vertical cores and columns, precast stair flights for immediate access to the deck, precast beams and beam shells, and hollowcore planks as flooring.

The façade contained a variety of architectural precast components and featured a significant amount of polished concrete, with complementary acid wash and sandblast areas.

One of the principle advantages of a total precast structure is the reduced construction time on site, both to build the structure initially and subsequently because of immediate access for service trades due to the absence of back propping.

Total precast has potential to be a faster, more efficient, tidier, safer way to build.
